Berlin Central Station – filigree perfection in glass and steel
Berlin Central Station is regarded as an architectural masterpiece of contemporary glass construction: it has a transparent delicate filigree appearance and daylight floods down to the lowest of the five transport levels. Expansive glass roofs span between glazed portals that tower 27 metres above each side of the 430 metre long platform area and 160 x 40 metre station hall. Blasi ensures that the station's 300,000 daily users and visitors are able to enter and leave efficiently and safely via a total of ten two-leaf revolving door systems. High-performance air-curtain systems designed in accordance with the specific site requirements prevent heat loss during the cold winter months and the entry of warm air from outside on hot days. This ensures a pleasant climate inside the entrance area and reduces energy costs. |

New revolving door system with intruder/object detection enhances airport safety
One of the most sensitive areas of any airport terminal is the line that separates the public zone (land-side) from the high-security zone (air-side). The newly-developed K21 PS two-leaf revolving door system makes the transition to the none-security zone quicker and safer. The system is also equipped with state-of-the-art sensor technology that reliably prevents unauthorised access and also effectively prevents dangerous items such as weapons, explosives and chemicals from entering the high-security zone. In addition, all items that are stuck on any surface or thrown in to the system are detected by multiple overlapping sensors that scan the entire door and detect objects that are larger than 2x1 cm and weight more than 100 grams. As soon as a person or object is detected, the door stops then travels back into a safe position and sends an alarm. An international application has been filed for a patent. The innovative K 21 PS revolving door system was used for the first time in Dallas/ Fort Worth – thus setting new security standards. |

Revolving door systems for airports in Vienna, Dallas and New York
The expansion of existing airports or construction of new airports is becoming a necessity in many parts of the world due to the ever-increasing numbers of passengers. Innovative solutions are required to deal with the complex issues arising during this process in relation to comfort, information and, also most importantly, security. As Blasi has a proven track record in the development of tried-and-tested concepts for passenger safety, it was commissioned to deliver automatic revolving door systems for new terminals at the airports in Vienna, Dallas/ Forth Worth and JFK in New York. |

Architecture, automobiles and automatic door systems
Buildings devoted to a passion for all things automotive seem unnecessary as the place for this surely on the road. Seemingly not: enthusiasm for cars is increasingly manifesting itself in architectural forms – as museums dedicated to the glorification of specific brands, luxurious pick-up centres and spectacular production facilities. Citroën has created a new glazed showroom in the Champs-Elysées to present the brand. BMW Welt – a building inspired by a cloud landscape – opened in Munich in October 2007 and the legendary "four-cylinder" tower underwent comprehensive refurbishment. These architectural concepts may seem to be poles apart but they do actually have one thing in common: automatic door systems manufactured by Blasi! |

Visitor friendly entrance areas for hotels
The luxury hotel trade is currently experiencing something of a renaissance. In attractive inner city locations in particular a marked trend towards designer hotels with sophisticated concepts and aesthetics is evident. Original organisation of spatial sequences, unusual ideas and individual architectural elements make such a visit an unforgettable experience. An aesthetically pleasing, functionally convincing entrance area, with high-quality finishes is an eye-catching feature and can even be the distinguishing trademark of the hotel. This is the case at the SAS Radisson Hotel in Cologne, Swissotel in Moscow and Novotel Citygate in Hong Kong for example, where specially developed automatic revolving door systems by Blasi are installed. |

New 'facade' sliding doors in all-glass design
with only 30 – 60 mm installation depth
The FST automatic 'facade' sliding door is one of the more recent custom-built elements manufactured by Blasi. When opened, the door automatically travels out of the facade and positions itself parallel to it. During the closing operation the door element moves back inside the opening of the facade. A sliding door was constructed for the terrace requiring a floor and ceiling installation depth of only 30 – 60 mm during the restoration of Hotel Mönchstein in Salzburg by the architects Volkmar Burgstaller in Salzburg. The profile system (IPS) used means that the frame is integrated between the glazing elements and the door closes flush with the facade. This all-glass door is six metres wide and has a passage height of three metres. The door leaf weight is 680 kilogram in total. |
